As part of a railway project, we integrated ALPGATE folding gates into an existing depot structure. The goal was to replace old, uninsulated gates and improve the building envelope’s energy efficiency—without new construction and without affecting the load-bearing structure. The result: reduced heat loss, lower operating costs, and a sustainable enhancement of the existing facility.
A major advantage of renovating existing buildings is the continued use of available infrastructure. This saves CO₂, avoids waste, and shortens construction time. At the same time, technical and energy standards can be updated to the current state—efficiently and resource-consciously.
ALPGATE folding gates can be realized up to 10 x 8 meters and, thanks to their side-folding design, are particularly space-saving. They require very little installation depth, making them ideal for renovations. Thermally separated steel profiles combined with special glazing allow U-values of 1.5–1.6 W/m²K, ensuring significantly improved thermal insulation for hall operations.
In terms of design, the gates offer great flexibility: various infills such as sandwich panels, large-area safety glass up to 5 meters high without muntins, perforated sheet metal, or wood allow for individual adaptation to usage and architecture. Security versions are available in RC3 and RC4; higher RC classes can be realized project-specifically upon request.
Overhead wire cutouts in the gate leaf and tracks are generally easy to implement. Thanks to the shallow installation depth and the omission of obstructive hangers, the gates can be cleanly integrated into existing structures—a clear advantage in demanding industrial and railway renovations.
This results in durable, precisely tailored gate solutions that combine energy optimization and functional requirements in a meaningful way.
