VAG Nuremberg – Entrance and exit with special folding doorsTwo folding doors were installed in the existing openings at the VAG car wash in Nuremberg to serve as the entrance and exit. The particular challenge was to retain the old drive housing so as not to detract from the façade – a solution that required precise planning and the utmost technical precision.
Each door has been fitted with cut-outs for the S-Bahn’s overhead line and pantograph. The compact drives are mounted on the outside, virtually invisible, hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated. The door panels were also given a matching finish, ensuring that the entire structure presents a harmonious, cohesive appearance. Safety glass ensures good light transmission, transparency and maximum safety.
Folding doors offer clear advantages in railway depots: they require very little depth, do not need any cumbersome suspension systems, and can be flexibly adapted to existing infrastructure. Cut-outs in the door leaf and guide rails allow for bespoke solutions, even for the most complex requirements.
The project demonstrates how the integration of existing structures, bespoke technical solutions and high-quality design go hand in hand – resulting in a cohesive, architecturally sophisticated overall appearance.
